Hidden Eyes
Just now
Your eyes are too beautiful to hide darling,
She said, as she pushed my curls to the side.
Satisfied, she smiled,
and said I had big, beautiful eyes like Cindy Lou Who
But I prefer the way my hair hides me —
a curtain full of curls
a shield of soft rebellion
Safely letting me take in the world around me
There’s something quiet lovely in the shadows,
in the quiet mystery of what’s unseen
Let the world seek my gaze,
but I’ll stay here, beneath the veil,
watching,
smiling,
letting them wonder.
